South Eastern Foursomes Qualifier
Although BB&O Seniors were below their normally brilliant best, Ashley Brewer still had lost to be proud of. As Captain of Denham Golf Club he could not have asked for a better performance from the host Club.
Every visiting player commented on the way in which BB&O had looked after their fellow teams with the course in superb condition and Denham’s hospitality living up to it’s reputation.
After a close morning session with wins from David Cromie (Denham) & Ian Oakes (Denham) as well as Malcolm Reid (Sonning) & George Wison (Calcot Park) the afternoon matches got away from the team. Although Ashley himself & Rod Crisp (Ellesborough) and Douglas Cameron (Henley) and Mike Sanders (Beaconsfield) both registered halves, further points did not materialise.
Sussex went on to win and therefore qualify for the Finals held later this year at Denham. Ashley, through gritted teeth, had to accept the “Better Next Time” Pot – often referred to under a different name!
