Amateur Championship

David Langley (Castle Royle) produced four exceptional rounds of golf over the Rothschild Course at Mentmore on 13th and 14th June. Par is 72 and he finished a record 18 under for the Championship with rounds of 70, 67, 68 and finally, a course record 65 including 9 birdies. The crowd at Mentmore certainly thought we were in for a close finish with the field tightly packed after 3 rounds but nobody challenged Langley over the tough front 9 before he tore the back nine apart in 6 under par. John Kemp (Woburn) finished 8 shots back with a score that in most Championships would have won easily. David Langley now goes on to see if he can be crowned England County Champion at Woddhall Spa later in the year.
