The 60 best junior golfers from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire turned up to The Springs Golf Club on Monday 28th July for their chance to be crowned the 2025 BB&O Junior Champion. Yash Patel (Gerrards Cross) had two eagles on his way to shooting level par and throwing himself in contention after the first round. Charlie Hamer (Goring & Streatley), Alfie Burt (Beaconsfield) & Ben Murphy (East Berkshire) all went one better on -1. Dominic Mayling (Castle Royle) had 1 eagle and 3 birdies on his way to shooting -2 to take the clubhouse lead. Josh Waldegrave (Beaconsfield) had a bogey free -4 front nine but dropped a couple of shots on the way in to sit level with Dominic at the top of the leaderboard after round 1. Meanwhile the 18th hole saw some excitement in one group as Nathan Baggett (Beaconsfield) holed out from 80 yards for eagle. Just as the spectators stopped cheering, Ashton Green (Bearwood Lakes) followed and slam dunked his approach for an eagle too! It was all to play for in the second round as only 4 shots separated the top 10 players.
Dominic got his afternoon round off to a flying start after eagling the 1st hole and followed it up with an additional 2 birdies on the front nine. However a couple of bogies on the back nine meant Dominic recorded a level par round and set a clubhouse target of -2. Marcus Smith (Castle Royle) shot -2 in the afternoon to clinch the U16 title. Ollie O’Dell used his home knowledge to his advantage to sneak ahead and be crowned the U15 Champion. Josh was fighting an injury and struggled to match his morning round. Thomas Kirchner (Beaconsfield) played his way into contention and needed an eagle on his final hole to force a play off. Thomas’ putt came up just shy of the hole and he finished -2 for his second round, -1 for the tournament.
Congratulations to Dominic on being crowned the BB&O Junior Champion after two fantastic rounds.
