George Wilson leads the way

The 2026 BB&O Seniors Championship brought together many of the counties leading senior golfers for a competitive and well-supported championship showcasing both high-quality golf and the continued strength of senior amateur golf. The conditions weren’t favourable with windy, damp and cold conditions making it feel more like February rather than May. We were set for a fantastic championship at Denham Golf Club as the top players led the way in the challenging conditions with Justin Rhodes (Woburn) and Simon Philips (The Maidenhead) setting the pace with a 74 (+4). Christian Butler used his home advantage to shoot a fantastic 71 (+1) but that wasn’t good enough to take the lead as George Wilson (Calcot Park) shot his age – 67 (-3) to take a 4 shot lead heading into day 2. With only one bogey on his scorecard and 4 birdies, George performed a masterclass for his playing partners.

With the sun set to make an appearance tomorrow, can anyone make an early charge and chase down George?

It’s set to be an exciting second day, with George hoping to win his third championship and Christian, Justin and Simon all challenging for their maiden victory.
