Ashton is crowned BB&O Junior Champion

The stage was set for one of the highlights of the BB&O junior golfing calendar as the Junior Championship got underway at Richings Park Golf Club.

Bringing together some of the leading young golfers from across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, the championship represents a fantastic opportunity for the region’s rising stars to test themselves in one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the season.

With county pride, championship honours and valuable Order of Merit points at stake, the competition promises to be fiercely contested from the opening tee shot to the final putt. The event is also a key opportunity for the next generation of golfers to gain valuable competitive experience and showcase the talent developing across the BB&O region.

The championship forms part of the 2026 BB&O Junior Order of Merit, with the leading players looking to strengthen their positions in the season-long race. Alongside the overall championship title, honours are also available for the BB&O Under-16 and Under-15 Champion Golfers of the Year, ensuring there is plenty to play for across the field.

As the heatwave continued it was set to be scorcher – temperature & scores. Despite a few late dropped shots Logan Matthews (Bearwood Lakes) set the pace on level par. The chasing pack weren’t far behind with 5 players sat on +2 and another 5 – including defending champion Dominic Marling, sat on +3. It looked like it was going to be a close finish.

Finley Clark (The Caversham) & Bruce Dingle (Studley Wood) were battling it out for the Nett Trophy with Finley just sneaking ahead by 1 shot on -10 after 36 holes. A fantastic score!

With not a lot of shots separating the top half of the field, it was all to play for. Logan couldn’t bounce back after one bad hole to finish +6 for the event. Ollie O’Dell (The Springs) continued his steady performance with back to back 72’s to finish +4. Archie Sollis (Tadmarton Heath) shot a second round +2 to finish +3 coming up just short in second place. Ashton Green (Bearwood Lakes) had a phenomenal second round to catapult himself back in contention. Despite bogeying the last Ashton shot 66 to be crowned the BB&O Junior Champion by 4 shots.

Rhian Morjaria (Woburn) was crowned U15 Champion with an impressive score of +4. The 2025 U15 Champion, Ollie O’Dell, was able to continue his winning ways after being named the U16 Champion.

Congratulations to Ashton who joins a list of very prestigious winners!
