BB&O win MUGS match

BB&O win MUGS match

On Tuesday 23rd August the annual MUGS match was hosted by the M.U.G.S and BB&O at Huntercombe Golf Club. Following on from BB&O’s previous win at West Hill in 2019, they were trying to retain the trophy against a notoriously strong Surrey team. The course was in magnificent condition the morning foursomes were halved with two wins each. In the afternoon singles, four of the eight games went to the 18th hole in a very contest. In the top game, Harvey Dobson (Wexham Park) managed a fighting half against Monty Holcombe, which ultimately proved vital to the result. Under increasing pressure, BB&O’s final four boys, Simon Mead (Newbury & Crookham), James Sampson (Henley), Archie Sollis (Cotswold Club) and Nathan Baggett (Beaconsfield) won their games to just edge Surrey by one point!

A special mention to Archie Sollis and Nathan Baggett, from the under 14 Squad, who were drafted into the team late and ended up winning both their foursomes and singles matches despite moving up an age group.

Our thanks goes to the Mortimer Ubiquitous Golf Society who sponsor this “test match” every year.
