Calcot Park win Champion Club!

Castle Royle headed to the BB&O Champion Club event at East Berkshire Golf Club on Friday 4th July to try and secure their third victory in a row. The Castle Royle team started their defence strong as Marcus Smith shot the joint lowest morning round of 70 (+1) with Kristan Dicker (+3) and James Stanton (+6) a few shots back. Harry Thomas (+2), Alex Stubbs (+6) & Luke Perkins (+7) made sure that Frilford Heath were in the mix after round 1. As the players headed into the afternoon, Castle Royle lead by 5 shots ahead of Frilford with Calcot Park a further shot back. Meanwhile in the Courage Trophy, Marcus was joined by Thomas Taylor-Cross (The Springs) at the top of the leaderboard at +1. Harry and Tommy Evans (Beaconsfield) sat T3 on +2 with a strong group of players making up the chasing pack a few shots back.

The temperature soared and the wind picked up making the conditions even trickier for the final 18 holes. Thomas continued this fine form in the afternoon and finished +6 for the event however he finished just 1 shot shy of taking taking the title as Alex Easter (East Berkshire) used his home advantage to finish +5 and lift he Courage Trophy.

Congratulations to Alex Easter on winning the Courage Trophy!

Castle Royle couldn’t match their morning scores and dropped down the leaderboard to finish 3rd. The Calcot Park team of Bradley Tuckett, Drew Rolfe and Shane Slatter fought back and shot a combined score of +11 for the second round to jump into the lead on +28 for the event. Frilford Heath were unable to match Calcot’s afternoon performance and finished in second place.

Congratulations to Calcot Park on winning the Champion Club and go on to represent BB&O at the national final later in the year.
