Carl on top form down under

Carl Banner (Beaconsfield) headed to Australia at the end of last season to compete in the top amateur events. Carl’s first event was the Dunes Medal at Dunes Golf Club. After an opening round of 66, Carl set the pace for the tournament. He followed up his 66 with 77, 68 & 76 in tough conditions to win by 5 shots. This is a fantastic achievement and Carl joins a prestigious list of winners including Jason Day.

The win secured Carl a spot in the the Professional Victorian Open in February. But before that, he gets to compete in the Australian Master of Amateurs. Can he follow in John Gough’s footsteps?

Carl got his first round underway at Southern Golf Club with a 69 (-3). After a tough start to his second round, Carl recorded 5 birdies to shoot 71 (-1) to finish T12 (-4) at the halfway point. Carl finished with rounds of 71 & 68 to finish -9 for the tournament. The strong finish resulted in Carl finishing T4 – a fantastic result!
