Castle Royle are Champions

Seventeen club teams descended on Castle Royle Golf Club to compete in the BB&O Champion Club. Each team consisted of three players with all three scores to count. The winning team with the lowest score after 36 holes goes on to represent BB&O at the national final later in the year. Defending champions, Castle Royle got off to a good start with Nick Scrutton coming in early with a level par followed by Jack Stark’s +4. Following on from his sublime performance last year, Tom Wilde shot -1 to take the team score to +3. Goring & Streatley were able to match Castle Royle’s team score of +3 as Matt Mccleery shot +4, Levi Bright had a flurry of birdies to finish +1 and Connor Jacob shot -3 to lead the Courage Trophy by 1 shot ahead of Tim Shin (Calcot Park) heading into the second round. There was much to look forward to from the afternoon as Castle Royle and Goring & Streatley both sat on +3 while Maidenhead were only 3 shots back.

After 27 holes Maidenhead were under par for the afternoon and closing in on Goring & Streatley and Castle Royle.  Tommy Evans (Beaconsfield) had 3 birdies on the front nine to tie with Connor at -3 whilst Tim had snuck into the lead with a score of -4 with 9 holes to go. The conditions deteriorated in the afternoon as the rain continued to get heavier. Connor and Tommy both dropped shots coming in. Connor finished on -1 for the event to take 3rd place. Tim and Tom both finished on -2 for the event with Tom clinching the trophy, for the second consecutive year, on count back.

Congratulations to Tom for winning the Courage Trophy.

In the team event, the final few holes proved important as Maidenhead finished on a team total of +13 which propelled them into second place. Tom’s -1 second round secured Castle Royle another title.

Congratulations to Nick, Jack and Tom on winning Champion Club for Castle Royle who will go on to represent BB&O at the national final. We wish them all the best.
