Courage Trophy

Courage Trophy

After more than 20 years of trying, Andy Haydon (Sand Martins) broke his ‘duck’ in emphatic fashion with a resounding performance in the Courage Trophy at Stoke Park on 12th June.

Lying joint 8th after the morning round and 5 behind the leader, Michael East, few would have given him much of a chance to break clear of the pack. However a best of the day round, of 4 under par 67 took him right to the top of the leader board. A good player can make birdies and the occasional eagle, but beware a bogey/three putt is just around the corner! Andy managed the round well and finished with just one dropped shot to card a level par total for the day. Sandy Bolton (Goring & Streatley) took second after a 70 in round 2 and Dan Walker also got a podium finish after rounds of 75 and 71.

Shot of the day came from Niel Stradling (Goring & Streatley) who decided that 2 shots were enough on the 13th hole. Can’t recall any other Albatross in my time doing this job!

Thanks to everyone at Stoke Park for presenting such a wonderful course, in fantastic condition, coupled with the great food and without doubt, a fantastic team of staff for whom nothing seems too much trouble.
