Douglas Johns Trophy

Douglas Johns Trophy

An amazing finish at Harewood Downs resulted in a win for Alex Fitzpatrick (Hallamshire) after he had a hole in one at the 8th (his 35th hole). At first he thought his 3 iron shot had gone long but was soon to discover, that the reason he couldn’t see it was, it had gone in! This now took him to within 1 shot of Jack Ainscough (Castle Eden) who had witnessed the shot from the 9th tee. The pressure of seeing his 3 shot lead all but vanish resulted in a double bogey at the last having played beautifully all day. He still had 2 fine scores of 69 and 68 but they would not be good enough to oust, last year’s Runner-Up, from the winners enclosure. Alex just missed his birdie putt on the 9th and his tap in enabled him to sign off with a 66 and take the Trophy by 1 shot.
