Eastern Inter Counties Foursomes

Eastern Inter Counties Foursomes

The BB&O first team headed up to Seacroft Golf Club on Friday 13th May to try and defend their title in the Eastern Inter Counties Foursomes event across the weekend. BB&O got off to a slow start with points only coming from Ben Quick & George Johnson (both from Beaconsfield), Tom Wilde (Lambourne) & Ryan Greenwood (Tadmarton Heath) and Adam Birdseye & Alfie Forisky from Maidenhead. With BB&O sitting on 3.5 points after the first session, it looked like a strong afternoon session was needed. BB&O went out determined to get some more points on the board. Ben and George went out first and won one of their matches. Harry Thomas and Huw Pearson (both from Frilford Heath) had an afternoon to remember on their debut for the first team with wins in their matches against Bedfordshire 8&7 and Cambridgeshire 2&1. Adam and Alfie made a birdie on the 18th hole to win one match and half the other. In total, BB&O secured 5.5 points in the afternoon leaving them 4.5 points behind Leicestershire & Rutland.

BB&O needed a strong finish on Sunday to be in contention and finished the morning session with 6 points. Rory Browne (Feldon Valley) & James Brockington (Henley) beat their arch rivals, Essex, 5&4as did Tom & Ryan and Adam & Alfie. Ben & George, Tom & Ryan and Adam & Alfie also prevailed over Norfolk. After the third session, BB&O were trailing by 5 points with Leicestershire & Rutland still ahead. BB&O had a strong start to the afternoon gaining 3.5 from 5 points available in their match against Lincolnshire. However, Leicestershire & Rutland came out fighting to win. John Kennedy (Frilford Heath) came in as a reserve for an ill Tom Wilde in the afternoon, and played with Ryan to deliver wins against Lincolnshire and  Leicestershire & Rutland.

BB&O finished the event with 19.5, 2.5 points behind second. Congratulations to Leicestershire & Rutland on winning the event on 27.5 points.
