England Golf County Finals

England Golf County Finals

BB&O got underway in the County Finals against Gloucestershire at Remedy Oak. Olly Huggins (Frilford Heath) & John Gough (Stoke Park) led the way in a tight match which went all the way to the 18th. John & Olly were 1 down playing the 18th and a par meant that the pair lost 1 down. Rory Browne (Feldon Valley) & Conor Gough (Stoke Park) were up against tough opponents who holed everything. Unfortunately Rory & Conor lost 3&2. Ben Loveard (Woburn) & Taylor Paul (Stoke Park) went out last and were battling all the way. The pair were A/S playing 18 and left themselves a difficult green side bunker shot. Ben held his nerve and holed a 2ft putt for the half.

John got the afternoon singles underway and fought back to be A/S on the back nine. John’s opponent eagled 15 and birded 16 to win 3&2. Olly, like John, fought back to be A/S after 14 and took it all the way to the 18th but unfortunately spun his ball back just short of the green and failed to get up and down and lost his match 1 down. Conor’s ball striking was on top form however he was unlucky on the greens which left him A/S going down the last. A distraction whilst hitting his second shot left his approach short and allowed his opponent to take the hole for a 1 up victory. Ben Quick’s (Beaconsfield) match was tight the whole way and a great up and down on the last produced a half. Taylor followed suit by going down the 18th and was one of the few players to hold the 18th green. A cool two putts secured Taylor the win. Ben Loveard was 1 up going down the 18th where his opponent holed a long putt for birdie which he couldn’t match resulting in a half.
