Frilford Heath Futures Tour Finals

Frilford Heath Futures Tour Finals

The Futures Tour ’22 Season kicked off at Ellesborough on 11th April and since then players have been competing not only for success in each individual tournament, but also to head the coveted Order of Merits.

Coming into the final event at Frilford Heath, the U14s OOM winner was already decided with Archie Sollis after a stellar season having won 5 of the 8 events he’d competed in. Similarly, the U16s had been dominated by Daniel Butteriss who had been victorious in 3 of the 7 events he’d played in. The U12s Order of Merit was wide open though, with Thomas James, Oliver O’Dell, and Isaac Hayes all in with a shout of topping the table.

The Red Course was playing its full length, and having recently hosting a Challenge Tour event, was in magnificent condition.

In the Under 16s, Jack Walters crowned his last event by shooting 76 and just edging out Freddie Wheeler’s (Tadmarton Heath) 77. Alex Stronach (Reading) took the nett prize.

In the Under 14 Scratch event, Archie Sollis (Cotswold Club) had an unusually poor day and Joshua Waldegrave (Gerrards Cross) took full advantage by carding a 78 to win by a shot over Nathan Baggett (Beaconsfield). The nett prize went to Matthew Gough (The Springs)

The closely contended Under 12 event went right down to the wire. All three Order of Merit contenders battled hard and all shot 82! These were truly competitive scores over a long and challenging course. Thomas James (Drayton Park) sneaked home on card count back which also gave him the Order of Merit victory over a very unlucky Oliver O’Dell (Goring & Streatley) who had won three events during the year. The nett prize went to Oscar Rusher (Burnham Beeches)

The 2023 season will resume at Ellesborough, and with the depth of talent emerging in BB&O, this years winners will really have to be on their game if they hope to be on the podium again next year!
