Futures Tour Final!

Futures Tour Final!

The BB&O U16 Futures Tour came to a dramatic end at Frilford Heath on Wednesday 30th October. The success of the tour proved evident as over 80 boys signed up to compete in the final event. After a ballot took place, an increased field size of 72 players headed to Frilford Heath for their chance to pick up the final Order of Merit points of the season. Rex Pickavance (Castle Royle) shot a nett 71 on his Futures Tour debut however Aaron Chana (Calcot Park) snuck ahead with a 81, nett 70, to take the lead. Seb Duffield (Sand Martins) birdied the final hole to shoot 77 and win the U12’s gross division. This victory for Seb meant that he won every Futures Tour U12 medal he played in this year, as a result he won the U12 Order of Merit for the second year in a row.

With the U14’s Order of Merit looking very close with both Isaac Hayes (Feldon Valley) and Ollie O’Dell (The Springs) sat on 113 points it was looking like an exciting final event. Issac had a very steady round, finishing with six straight 4’s to shoot 74 (+2) and set a clubhouse target for Ollie to match. Ollie started his round with a double and proceeded to be +6 after 5 holes but he turned it around shooting -4 for his final 13 holes to sneak ahead of Isaac on count back. Ollie’s fantastic back nine meant that he secured the U14 Order of Merit.  Alistair Barker (The Oxfordshire) finished with back to back birdies on his way to shooting a nett 69 to secure the U14’s nett prize with Charlie Hodgson (Kirtlington) sat just 1 shot back.

Magnus Gunning (The Caversham) had a nearly perfect scorecard with only 1 birdie and 1 bogey to shoot level par (72). Magnus’ +1 back nine meant he was able to sneak ahead of Thomas Kirchner (Beaconsfield) on count back to win the U16 gross division. Marcus Smith (Castle Royle) sat 1 point ahead of Archie Sollis (Tadmarton Heath) in the U16 Order of Merit. Archie came back strong on the final 9 holes to shoot 74 (+2). Marcus finished with 2 birdies, including a chip in on the final hole, to card 74 and tie with Archie. Marcus finished in 4th place on count back to Archie in 3rd. The final standings meant that Archie overtook Marcus on the U16 Order of Merit by 1 point and lifted the trophy.
