George is Seniors Champion

It was a damp start to the Seniors Championship at East Berkshire Golf Club. Although not every competitor completed their first round, John Cox (Kirtlington) was the early clubhouse leader with a 72 (nett 67). With the evening drawing in, the final groups were struggling for light. David Niven (East Berkshire) matched John’s score, Mark Simpson (Reading) snuck ahead with a 71. The BB&O Mid-Age Champion Mike Sanders (Beaconsfield) shot 70 to take the lead. As it got darker the final group were unable to finish their round and came back early on Thursday to complete the final three holes. Heading into the final round Mike Sanders had a 1 shot lead.

The weather improved for day 2 and so did the scores. In the over 70’s category, Gregor Brown (Frilford Heath) took the trophy with 153 (+15). John Cox (Kirtlington) continued his good form with a 77 (nett 72) to stay in contention. Column Harrington (Oxford) fought back with a second round 72 (nett 67). Mark Simpson (Reading) took the clubhouse lead with a 146 total (+8) 3 ahead of John Cox, Columb Harrington and David Niven (East Berkshire). John Cox won the handicap prize ahead of Gregor Brown (Frilford Heath). Mark Simpson finished 3rd overall and won the 55-59 age category. 2019 Champion Doug Cameron (Frilford Heath) won the 60-64 age category on +11.  George Wilson (BB&O Seniors Captain) played the best golf of the day and added a 69 to his first round of 74 and finish +5 for the event and took the Championship by 3 shots ahead of Tim Whittaker (Beaconsfield).

Congratulations to George, our 2020 Seniors Champion!
