Junior Champion Club

Junior Champion Club

Just 16 Clubs took part this year in the Junior Champion Club at Caversham Heath on 7th April. This is a very disappointing entry considering the number of Clubs in the County Union, added to the fact it is a Handicap event open to Boys and Girls. Due to a misunderstanding of the Rules on the tee, the players were informed that the competition was a stableford rather than a medal.

Nonetheless the competition was fierce with the host Club setting the early pace with 69 points. Most found the course and weather rather tough and 2 scores out of 3 averaging 36 points seemed beyond the majority. Midway through the afternoon, Harewood Downs took the lead after posting a score of 70 points with Max Biggs-Michaelides contributing 37 points. Woburn were last out and once again it was the final card of the day that decided the Championship. With a score of 69 points from Tom Bright and Rubin Das in the bag, 34 would give Woburn the crown, even on count back. Jacob Fawcett duly obliged and his 35 points saw Woburn win their second title in 3 years. We wish them well in the  England Golf Final at Frilford Haeth in August.
