Junior Championship

Junior Championship

Once again we had the privilege of playing over a great Championship course for our Junior Championship. This is the 5th year in a row the Buckinghamshire GC have hosted our event and the course was, once again, set up to test the players.

The morning scores were not bad, but you did have to question one or two decision making judgments by some of the better players. Risk and reward comes to mind. Water carries and seeking pins – not recommended sometimes!

Alex Nicholls (Goring & Streatley) led after a 73 with James Brady (Sonning), John Gough (Stoke Park) and Alex Bithrey (Woburn) just 1 shot adrift. It would prove a tight Championship with plenty of others in the hunt.

Weather was fine but some didn’t learn from their morning errors and continued to attack, when defence, was in order. As the shake up got underway Kristian Donaldson from the home club posted 152 to take the Clubhouse lead until Nick Elmey (Frilford Heath) added another 75 to post 150, to eventually finish in 3rd place but win the Under 16 Championship. It was left to John Gough and Alex Bithrey to battle it out for first place, but a few dropped shots at the last few holes by John, allowed Alex to play in and take the Championship by 2 sots.

The Handicap Trophy was won by Matthew Cradock (Witney Lakes) with two very good rounds of 72 to just sneak ahead of Alex for the Silverware.
