Junior Championship

Junior Championship

It was a boiling hot day at the Buckinghamshire for the 2018 Junior Championship. A strong field of juniors took part over two rounds. The golf course held its own after the morning round with Nandit Sondagar (Stoke Park) leading the way after a 74. Close behind after firing 76 was Oscar Craik (Frilford Heath), Oscar Fuentes (Bearwood Lakes) & Harry Grant (Goring & Streatley). With the golf course living up to its Championship reputation it was all to play for in the afternoon with many players within touching distance of Nandit’s lead.

As temperartures soared Melan Dhaubhadel (Calcot Park) caught fire and took just 31 strokes to complete the front 9. This put him right in the mix and gave him a chance of going one better than last year when he finished runner up. As the early scores started to come in rumours were circulating round the clubhouse that Melan had got to -6 and had closed the gap on Nandit who was playing well himself. Oscar Craik followed up his morning round with 74 giving him a total of 150 which made him the clubhouse leader with the last group still out on the course. The battle between Melan & Nandit went down to the last hole but Nandit held his nerve and added a 73 to his morning score of 74 to give him a total of 147. This was good enough to see him crowned 2018 BB&O Junior Champion. A single stroke behind was Melan who eventually finished with 68 in the afternoon which combined with his morning score of 80 left him on 148.

Charlie Robb (Buckingham) fired two solid rounds of 79 & 73 which saw him crowned both the U15 & U16 Champion. The net winner was Oscar Fuentes who finished up with a net score of 145 which pipped home player Sam Purvey (Buckinghamshire) by a single stroke. Our thanks must got to The Buckinghamshire for hosting the event and for preparing the golf course excellently in difficult conditions. We wish Nandit the very best of luck when he represents BB&O in the England Golf Champion of Champions event later in the year.
