Kemp & Rhodes storm to victory

Kemp & Rhodes storm to victory

The first BB&O Winter Senior Series event took place at East Berkshire Golf Club on Thursday 24th November. The event was 4-Ball Better Ball scratch medal which attracted a strong field of golfers over the age of 50 with a handicap of 9.4 or better. Alistair Booth and Peter Lockett, both from Frilford Heath, took advantage before the rain and had three birdies on the way to shooting 68 (-1) setting a target for the later groups. Johnny Griggs (Maidenhead) & Tony Knight (Thorney Park) had a very steady round to sneak ahead of Alistair & Peter on count back. Mark Rogers and Simon Phillips from Maidenhead had a two under bogey free better ball score to take the clubhouse lead. John Pocock & Paul Rainsden from Goring & Streatley had four birdies to replace Mark & Simon at the top of the table.

The wind was getting stronger and the rain continued to fall as the final 2 groups were finishing up. John & Paul didn’t stay at the top for long as Tim Whittaker & Mike Sanders (Beaconsfield) matched their score with a 67 but shot -2 on the back nine to briefly take the top spot before John Kemp & Justin Rhodes (Woburn) battled the wind and rain for a bogey free 65 (-4) to win the event!

Congratulations to John & Justin on a great score to win the first Senior Series event of the winter.

Thank you to East Berkshire for hosting a fantastic event and we look forward to the next event at Calcot Park on 14th December.
