Kodi & Josh are Champions

The annual Douglas Johns Trophy took place at Harewood Downs Golf Club on Thursday 1st August. The Douglas Johns Trophy attracts the best under 15 year old golfers from across the country. Past winners include Justin Rose, Alex Fitzpatrick and more recently Kris Kim – all of which have competed in a PGA Tour event. Oliver Housden (Ely City) got off to a fast start as he carded a 71 (+2) nett 62. Jakob Payne (Bicester) and Harry Weatherhead (Burhill) joined Oliver on +2 and sat tied sixth after the first round. Finlay Fergusson went one shot lower than his fellow Burhill member to sit in tied third. Finlay was then joined by two very young competitors, Sebastian Duffield (Sand Martins), 11 years old, and Marcus Karim (East Herts), 10 years old, who both shot 70 (+1) Impressive scores for those so young. Josh Waldegrave (Beaconsfield) who was out in the middle of the field became the clubhouse leader after 4 birdies and 3 bogies to finish at -1 for his round. Kodi Dean (Wentworth) then shot -2 on his final 9 holes to join Josh at the top of the leaderboard. As the temperature soared it was looking like an exciting final 18 holes as 16 players sat within 5 shots of the leaders. Could BB&O have their first winner of the Douglas Johns since Conor Gough 8 years ago?

The threat of thunder and lightning was getting closer and closer as the day progressed. As the lightning got within 5 miles of the golf club the klaxon blew and the players headed back to the clubhouse. With the forecast not looking likely to improve there was no other option than to run the event over the first 18 holes. With two players tied for the lead on -1 and no chance of a play-off, the players – Josh Waldegrave and Kodi Dean shared the title and became joint champions.

Thank you to Harewood Downs for hosting a fantastic event!

Congratulations to Josh & Kodi!
