Order of Merit

Order of Merit

Throughout the season, the Order of Merit has been a close run thing, with many players being in with a shout. However, clashes with schedules meant that some players didn’t play in as many events as they would have liked. In the end the top 2 places were up for grabs in the final event, the Autumn Trophy, at The Lambourne on 18th September. Rymer Smith (Buckinghamshire) had led for a lot of the season but Tim Shin (Castle Royle) was close behind. David Langley (Castle Royle), was another potential winner but he had to travel back to College in the USA and was not in the final mix. Dan Caton (Burnham Beeches) couldn’t win, but a good showing would make a difference to the prizes. Dan went on to win with a fine round of 70 giving him 9½ points an Tim’s tied 4th gave him another 6½. It was up to Rymer now, but he could not recover enough ground to make up for a poor start and failed to score enough points to edge out the other two players.
