Sam breaks record to win Douglas Johns

The Douglas Johns Trophy had a full field of 60 players from all over the country competing at Harewood Downs. The course was playing firm and fast but with the wind picking up it challenged a few of the players. Josh Stephens (Moortown) had 4 birdies on the back 9 on his way to shoot 65 (-4) and taking the clubhouse lead. Sam Marshall (Elton Furze) and Ayden Knight (Tidworth Garrison) had two great rounds shooting 66 trailing by 1 heading into the final round. Kris Kim (Walton Heath) had a great start in defending the title by having 2 birdies in his last 3 holes to finish 2 back from Josh. With 5 more players within 5 shots of Josh, it seemed all to play for in the second round.

Josh wasn’t able to replicate his morning round finishing +2 for the event. Sam continued his fine form into the afternoon by going one shot better and shooting 65 to finish -7. Kris went on fire in his second round and matched the lowest score of the day with a 65 however this meant he fell one shot short of Sam. Ayden went under par in his second round to finish on -4 for the event and in third place.

The lowest score recorded in the Douglas Johns was 133 by O Dickman from Cuckfield Golf Club in 2017. This record was broken twice in this years event, Kris Kim went 1 shot better with 132 and Sam Marshall now holds the lowest score record with 131 (-7) total.

Congratulations to Sam on winning the Douglas Johns Trophy with a fantastic score!
