Stoke Park are Champions

On Friday 5th July, 69 players were representing 23 clubs in the Champion Club event at Frilford Heath Golf Club. With all three scores to count, the pressure was on as the winner gets to represent BB&O in the English Champion Club which Castle Royle were victorious in last year. After the morning round Woburn and Castle Royle were tied on level par, Stoke Park were only 2 shots back, it was all to play for in the afternoon. Adam Birdseye from Maidenhead shot an impressive 69 (-3) to creep ahead of Harrison Arnold (Castle Royle) in the Courage Trophy.

In the afternoon, Woburn weren’t able to maintain on top as they finished in 3rd place with a final score of +9. The Castle Royle team played some very steady golf in the afternoon to shoot a team score of +2 however this was not good enough as Stoke Park took the top spot. The Stoke Park team which consisted of Kevin Freeman, Taylor Paul and Johnny Griggs shot a a very solid team score of -5. Stoke Park will go onto represent BB&O at the English Champion Club at Romford Golf Club in September.

Kevin Freeman (Stoke Park) went on a birdie blitz in the second round, firing 31 on the back nine to shoot 68 (-4) to take the Courage Trophy with a -5 total. Olly Huggins (Frilford Heath) just came up shy with a -4 total to take second place on count back to Daniel Walker (Goring & Streatley).
