Tom Gregory shines for England U16’s

BB&O’s 14 year old Tom Gregory, represented England for the first time in an international U16 quadrangular match against Wales, the Netherlands and Ireland between the 11th – 13th April, at Prestatyn Golf Club. The four countries competed against each other in a format that consisted of 4 foursomes matches in the morning, followed by 8 singles matches in the afternoon.

After the first two days, England had beaten both Wales and the Netherlands, as had Ireland. Tom won his sigles match against the Nerherlands 4&2 and against Wales 4&3. In the Foursomes, with his partner and friend Dominic Clemmons, they lost to the Netherlands 1 down, but beat the Welsh 5&4

So the final day was set up beautifully. The winner of the match between England vs Ireland, would be victorious in the overall competition. After the morning foursomes, England led 3:1. Tom Gregory and his partner winning their match 2:1. In the afternoon singles, Ireland fought back in strong winds, to win the singles 5.5 to 2.5, thereby narrowly beating England overall 6.5 to 5.5, and this meant Ireland secured the quadrangular title.

Tom Gregory halved his singles match agianst the Irish, so remained unbeaten in all his three singles. So this, combined with his two wins and one loss in the foursomes,  meant that overall, he won a total of  4.5 points from a possible 6. A very good performance. This was a great event, a great honour and a tremendous experience for our young golfer
