Tom is the BB&O Amateur Champion

Day 1 – Round 1 Report

72 of the best golfers in the county met to compete in the 92nd BB&O Amateur Champion at Maidenhead Golf Club. With a strong wind and slick greens the conditions proved very challenging. After round 1 the leaderboard was tight with only 16 players qualifying for the second round, it was all to play for in the afternoon. Ryan Greenwood (Tadmarton Heath), Benjamin Quick (Beaconsfield), Taylor Paul (Stoke Park) & Lee Moore (Maidenhead) were leading the way on level par (70). There were six players 1 shot behind chasing the leaders including previous Amateur Champion Tom Lawson (Stoke Park) and Maidenhead member Alfie Forisky.

Day 1 Round 2 Report

Hamish Hall (North Oxford) continued his fine form into the afternoon, after shooting +1 he followed it up with a +2 which guaranteed his passage through to the weekend. Tom Wlide (Lambourne) played his way into the top spot on -2 after matching the course record by shooting a phenomenal 65 which included 2 eagles. James Brockington (Henley) had 5 birdies on his way to shooting 69 (-1) to secure himself a tee time on Saturday. George Johnson (Beaconsfield) matched James’ 69 to finish in T-5 heading into the weekend. Will Tate (Bearwood Lakes) stole the show at the very end of the day. Will was the last card to come in and he shot an unbelievable 64 having played his last few holes in torrential rain. Congratulations to Will who set a brand new course record at Maidenhead. Will found himself 3 shots short of Tom with his form trending for day 2.

Congratulations to Hamish Hall (North Oxford) who won the Penfold Trophy which is awarded to the best net score after day 1.

Day 2 – Round 3 Report

It was a soggy start to the third round however Adam Birdseye used his home advantage and finished birdie, birdie to shoot 69 (-1) and play himself into contention. Alfie Forisky followed by firing a 67 (-3) to take the clubhouse lead on +2. Alfie wasn’t at the top on his own for long as Will Tate shot 71 (+1) to finish +2 after 3 rounds. Alfie & Will patiently waited for the final group to come in to find out how it stood before heading out for their final round. Tom Wilde followed his second round 65 with a 76 which stood at +4, still in contention as the weather looked to worsen in the afternoon. Tom Lawson played very steady with 2 birdies and 1 bogey finishing -1 for his round. His one under par score left him 3 shots clear heading into the afternoons round.

Day 2 – Round 4 Report

With the storms staying away, the sun came out for the afternoon with sporadic showers. Following on from his morning round, Adam got the ball rolling on the back nine for a level par round, leaving him +5 for the tournament. Finlay Szafnauer (Frilford Heath) had a solid level par fourth round finishing birdie birdie to finish +10 for the event. With only two groups left out on the course, Birdseye still held a 1 shot lead ahead of Taylor Paul who shot a final round 73 (+3). Tom Lawson & Tom Wilde were the last group to come in and with +5 leading in the clubhouse it looked to be in Tom Lawson’s favour. Tom Wilde just pipped Adam on finishing second after shooting a steady level par (70). Tom Lawson had a great final round under pressure shooting yet another 69 to finish -2 for the tournament. That is Tom’s 5th BB&O Amateur Champion title, a fantastic achievement!

Thank you to Maidenhead for hosting a wonderful event. The players benefitted from great hospitality and the course was presented in immaculate condition.
