Doug Cameron is Seniors Champion

It was a wet and windy start to the Seniors Championship on Wednesday 8th May, 62 gentlemen battled the weather in the first round. Despite the storms Sonning Golf Club was in beautiful condition giving all players a real challenge. David Williams (Castle Royle) and John Cox (Kirtlington) took the overnight lead in the Handicap category shooting a nett 68, 2 shots ahead of Chris Wilkins (Sonning). The scores were looking tight at the top of the leader board with six players shooting a gross 73, Seniors Captain George Wilson managed to sneak ahead of the field with a gross 72.

The second round of the championship on Thursday 9th May saw an improvement in the weather, with the rain holding off until late in the afternoon. John Cox (Kirtlington) managed to maintain his good form and shoot a nett total 142 to win the Handicap prize. The 55-59 Champion is Michael Sanders (Beaconsfield) with a total of 146, 60-64 Champion is George Wilson (Calcot Park) shooting 145. Cliff Pearce (Ellesborough) was able to sneak victory of the 65-69 Age Category with a 152 total and Sam Smale (Denham) shot 157 to become the Over 70 Champion.

Doug Cameron (Calcot Park) was able to overcome the conditions and set a clubhouse target, holing a bunker shot on 17 for birdie and making an eagle on the last for a gross 65 (-5) which gave him a total of 144. With two groups left to finish, the rain started to pour as the final players needed to produce a solid round to compete with the clubhouse target. George Wilson (Calcot Park) shot a second round 73 for a total of 145 and leaving him just one shot shy.

Congratulations to Doug Cameron from Calcot Park on becoming BB&O Senior Champion!
