Loveard through to final 16

U18 squad members Ben Loveard (Woburn) and Finlay Szafnauer (Frilford Heath) finished in the top 64 of the stroke play to qualify for the match play stages of the British Boys Championship as Royal Cinque Ports. Ben had a great -2 second round to safely qualify after finishing 5th on -2. Finlay had a solid first round 74 (+2) followed by a 79 which saw him into the match play.

Ben takes on Christian Johnson in the first round and Finlay plays Morgan Blythe. Ben won his match in fine fashion with a 4&3 victory. Finlay fought is way back into the match after being down early and got it back to A/S through 12. Unfortunately Finlay didn’t progress to the next stage, losing on the 16th. A great effort by Finlay especially as he made it through to the match play stages of the Welsh Amateur earlier in the season.

Ben is through to the final 32, competing against Thomas Stephens. It was a very close match between Ben and Thomas with the match going down the 18th. Ben came out victorious and progresses to the final 16 where he faces Reis Suart.
