BB&O Boys are South Eastern Champions

The BB&O Under 18 Elite Team, once again, lived up to their reputation at the week-end and became the regional champions. Having suffered an administrative disqualification in the national qualifier, Simon Hopkins (Boys Manager) was keen to prove that his talented team were one of the best, if not the best, in the country.

Team Captain, Finlay Szafnaeur (Frilford Heath) celebrated his 18th birthday the evening before and so the team travelled to Halesworth Golf Club on the morning having helped him celebrate!

Mark Dickin (Bearwood Lakes) travelled with the team but had to make the brave decision to withdraw due to injury thirty minutes before the match started.

Luke Perkins (Frilford Heath), Finlay, Harry Thomas (Frilford Heath) and Harry Gale (Goring & Streatley) all won both of their matches. Ben Loveard (Woburn) and Huw Pearson (Buckingham) won one match each and Ben McFadden (Castle Royle) and Charlie Robb (Buckingham) both lost their matches despite valiant fight-backs.

In most of the matches BB&O started slowly and then dominated the closing 9 holes, and Harry Gale’s stunning second shot into the par 5 18th to close out his match was typical of the quality and heart displayed by all team members.

In his speech afterwards, Finlay was keen to mention Simon Hopkins and Mike Partridge for their total support, and the team who will now separate due to age differences. As a group of boys, they have been as good as BB&O have ever had!
