Ben wins in play-off

The Junior Championship took place at Richings Park on Monday 25th July. Alfie Burt (Wexham Park) had a great round and shot 73 to set an early target. Tommy Evans (Beaconsfield) went 1 shot better with 72 which wasn’t at the top of the leaderboard for long as Joseph Lawton (East Berkshire) had a very tidy round of 71. Connor Jacob (Goring & Streatley) birdied his final 2 holes to finish level par and take the lead after round 1. With 10 players within 5 shots it was all to play for in the afternoon.

The wind picked up in the afternoon but that didn’t stop the first few groups beating their morning score. Dan Butteriss (Beaconsfield) shot a +2 second round to sneak ahead of Sander Andreasen (Maidenhead) and become the U15 Champion. Tommy Evans continued his steady form into the afternoon by shooting +1 to finish +3 for the event. Connor had 5 birdies of his first 8 holes but two dropped shots on the back nine meant he finished -1 for his second round. Ben McFadden (Castle Royle) shot +3 in the morning and needed to shoot -4 in the afternoon to force a play-off. Ben managed to get to -2 with 3 holes to play. He birdied the par 5 17th and then left himself a 15ft birdie putt on the 18th which he made to force a play-off.

With a sudden death play-off needed to crown the winner, the boys headed back down the first. The 1st hole is a drivable par 4 and both players risked driver leaving themselves pin high but missing the green. Both players halved with a par before moving onto the second hole which is a long par 3.Ben hit the green and was 20ft away before Connor missed the green to the right. Connor was unable to get up and down leaving Ben with 2 putts to seal the deal. Ben made a par to become the BB&O Junior Champion!

Congratulations to Sander on winning the Handicap Trophy and Dan on becoming the U15 & U16 Champion!

Ben will go on to represent BB&O in the English County Champion of Champions in September.
