Gough is Irish Amateur Champion

John Gough (The Berkshire) continued his impressive form by becoming the 2023 Irish Amateur Champion. John began the event with a +3 first round leaving him 8 shots behind the leader. A phenomenal bogey free second round followed by a -3 third round put John straight back into contention. In the final round, birdies at 14, 15, & 16 put John in the lead. A wayward drive down 18 meant that John had to get up and down to secure the win. A 4ft putt stood between John and victory. As the ball hit the bottom of the hole John released a fist pump before waiting to see whether the players in the final group made a birdie on the last to take it to a play-off. John’s final round -5 (67) was good enough to secure him the Irish Amateur Championship.

Congratulations John – road to the Walker Cup continues!
