BB&O Men win Triangular Match

The BB&O annual Triangular match between the Junior, Men and Senior Teams took place at Frilford Heath on Sunday 30th March. Dan Butteriss (Beaconsfield) & Freddie Wheeler (Tadmarton Heath) got the juniors off to a strong start in the morning foursomes taking down both oppositions. Carl Banner (Beaconsfield) & Rory Browne (Feldon Valley) narrowly beat John Kennedy (Frilford Heath) & Steve Clarke (Buckingham) on the 18th to claim the first point for the Men’s team. The Men’s team continued to dominate the morning foursomes with the final 3 pairs winning both their matches. The Juniors continued to show strength against the Senior team as they won all 4 of their morning matches.

After only losing 1 match in the morning the Men’s team lead the way by 2 points from the Juniors heading into the afternoon singles session. Junior Captain Dan got the Juniors back into contention after winning both matches on the 18th. Gary Mumford (Woburn) got the first point on the board for the Seniors after beating Carl 3&2. Thomas Kirchner (Beaconsfield) and Jamie McGeoch (The Berkshire) came out fighting and got another 2 points on the board for the Junior Team, while Rory & Hamish Hall (Studley Wood) were able to match this for the Men’s team. Harry Thomas (Frilford Heath) & Drew Rolfe (Calcot Park) beat the Juniors to nudge the Men’s team ahead at the halfway point. Archie Sollis (Tadmarton Heath) brought the Junior’s back into the mix after claiming 1.5 points. Under 16 squad member, Marcus Smith (Castle Royle), won both his afternoon singles matches on his debut for the U18’s.

It was a closely fought contest with the final match deciding if it would be the Juniors lifting the trophy for the first time or the Men retaining it. Connor Jacob (Goring & Streatley) won both his matches and Harvey Cooper (Castle Royle) just came up short against Richard Lee (Goring & Streatley) on the 18th. As a result, the BB&O Men came out on top.

The match proved the strength of BB&O and the talent on display makes us excited to see what the teams can achieve this season.
