Drayton Park are Champions!

A showcase of emerging talent and club pride, the Junior Champion Club once again underlined its reputation as one of the standout team events in county golf, as three-player sides battled it out for the right to represent Berks, Bucks & Oxon on the national stage. The event took place at Oxford Golf Club on Wednesday 1st April where 72 players represented 24 different clubs.

Unlike traditional individual championships, this format places the emphasis firmly on collective performance, with teams of three juniors combining their efforts — the best two net Stableford scores counting towards the final total.

That structure ensured drama throughout, with no margin for complacency and every shot carrying added weight. As the rounds unfolded, momentum swung between clubs, with tightly packed leaderboards reflecting just how competitive junior golf has become in the region.

Victory carries more than just county bragging rights. The winning club earns the honour of representing the county union at the English Junior Champion Club — a national competition bringing together the top junior teams from across the country.

It’s a significant stepping stone in the player pathway, offering young golfers the chance to test themselves against the very best and continue their development within the England Golf structure.

A closely contested team event saw strong performances across the field, with Drayton Park emerging as worthy winners after an impressive display of consistent scoring. Congratulations to Drayton Park on winning for the 2nd time in 3 years. The Drayton Park team consisted of Vinnie James, Sammy Deacon and George Hopgood.

🏆 Team Results Overview

Drayton Park secured 1st place with 77 Stableford points, finishing just ahead of Oxford (74 points) and Castle Royle (73 points). The competition remained tight throughout, with only a 4-point gap separating the top three teams.
