County Finals – Day 3

Day three at the County Finals went very much the same as the previous two days. BB&O were battling for third place against Lincolnshire having narrowly missed out to both Gloucestershire and Yorkshire.

Wins from Langley & Huggins and Nicholls & Shin coupled with a half from Baylis & Birdseye gave BB&O a 2.5 – 0.5 morning lead. Unfortunately BB&O were soon caught up in the afternoon. David Langley halved his match and Alex Nicholls won his convincingly. Losses in three of our other matches (Harrison Arnold, George Baylis and Tim Shin) meant that a win with our last hope on the course would secure a well deserved point from the week.

Olly Huggins made a fine up and down on the 17th to keep his match all square but after a beautifully played 18th was beaten by a last ditch 30 feet putt on the final green. This meant that although they hadn’t been beaten by more than one point in any of their three matches, tight results had conspired to leave BB&O in fourth place.

Throughout the campaign the BB&O team showed just why they were the best team in the South East of England. Their final position belied their professional approach and the work and organisation of Team Captain Ashley Walton alongside his vice Simon Hopkins was a credit to the County.
