Drew is Champion

Drew is Champion

Sixty of the best junior golfers within BB&O descended upon The Wychwood Golf Club to compete in the BB&O Junior Championship. The soaring temperatures didn’t prove difficult as there were some fantastic scores in the morning. Despite having a double bogey on the card, Archie Sollis (Tadmarton Heath) was able to bounce back and shoot 71 (-1). Bradley Hopkin (Newbury & Crookham) had three birdies in his last five holes to match Archie’s 71. After carding fifteen pars, Drew Rolfe (Calcot Park) joined Archie and Bradley at -1. Thomas Kirchner (Beaconsfield) had a great round which included 5 birdies to finish on -3 (69) to take a 2 shot lead heading into the second round.

As the sun continued to shine, the players went back out for their afternoon rounds with Thomas very much in their sights. Archie wasn’t able to match his morning score but still put together a solid round of golf to finish +2 for the event which took the clubhouse lead with the final few groups to finish. Ashton Green (Bearwood Lakes) climbed the leaderboard after shooting an afternoon round of 70 (-2). Bradley and Billy Wood both finished on +1 for the day to secure 3rd place. The battle for the title took place in the final group between Drew & Thomas. It all came down to the final hole and Drew was able to clinch the title with a par down the 18th. Thomas’ score of -1 for the 36 holes was good enough to secure the title of BB&O U16 champion.

Josh Waldegrave (Gerrards Cross) shot 74 (+2) to lead the U15’s age category. Jakob Payne (Burford) and Thomas James (Frilford Heath) sat just one shot behind with 18 holes to play. Thomas continued his fine form in the afternoon as he carded a 73 (+1) to move into pole position in the U15’s – congratulations to Thomas on becoming the BB&O U15 champion.

Congratulations to Drew, the BB&O Junior Champion 2024.
