First team Defeat Middlesex

First team Defeat Middlesex

For the first South East League Match of the year the BB&O First Team of 8 Players travelled to Muswell Hill Golf Club to play Middlesex. Representing BB&O were David Langley (Castle Royle), Olly Huggins (Frilford), Rory Browne (Feldon Valley), James Brockington (Henley), Aaron Ashberry (Burford), Adam Birdseye (Maidenhead), Kevin Freeman (Stoke Park) & Tom Lawson (Stoke Park)

In the morning foursomes, played in glorious sunshine with little wind, the pairing of Langley & Huggins led the way and in a close match beat their opponents 2&1. In the second match Browne & Brockington got up early and continued to press home their advantage to win 6&4. In the third match Ashberry & Birdseye were involved in a very close match, which Middlesex won 1 up by holing a 15 foot par putt on the last. In the final foursome, Freeman & Lawson were ahead early in the round and continued to press home their advantage to win 6&4.

Both teams went into lunch with BB&O leading by 3 points to 1.

In the afternoon singles, with the weather set fair, but a strengthening breeze, early in the round the County were up in the top 2 games and down in the next 2 games. BB&O were starting to exert some control in the last 4 matches by leading in all of them. As the afternoon progressed, a couple of the matches became tighter, but experience was beginning to tell, and eventually the County crossed the line for a very good away win. The Winners were Huggins, Birdseye, Ashberry, Lawson & Freeman with Brockington securing a half, with Langley & Browne unfortunately losing their matches.

Result: BB&O 8.5 – Middlesex 3.5

This first match of the season was very encouraging and the First Team now head off to the Eastern Counties Foursomes at Seacroft on Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th of May. Their next league match is against Essex at Home (Frilford Heath) on Sunday 26th May.
