BB&O Draw with Lancashire in their “Own Back Yard”

The weather was kind for this inaugural Friendly Match against Lancashire Boys. Lytham St Annes was magnificent and we were very fortunate to have been invited to compete over this wonderful British Open venue.

The morning foursomes were closely contended and Conor Gough (Stoke Park) and Harrison Arnold (Castle Royle) birdied the last for a well earned half. Tom Gregory (Stoke Park) and Zac Jenkins (East Berkshire) were down for most of their matches but clutch putts holed down the stretch earned them a well deserved victory.

Taylor Paul (Stoke Park) and Tom Lawton (East Berkshire) lost to a strong Lancashire performance and James Gregory (Stoke Park) and Fraser Brown (Castle Royle) struggled for most of the morning for a loss.

The fight back started in the afternoon singles when Conor Gough overturned a 3 holes deficit to earn his point with a 3 and 1 victory. Tom Gregory made a fantastic birdie on the last for a half and Harrison Arnold beat his opponent convincingly 6 and 4. Both Taylor Paul and Tom Lawton played well but didn’t quite do enough and both lost.

This left James Gregory and Fraser Bown needing a win each to half the match. A brilliant up and down followed by a closing birdie closed the deal for James. With the weight of the match on him, Fraser nearly holed his second shot on the 18th before cooly rolling in his birdie putt.

Both teams agreed that the match could not have been more exciting and we look forward to welcoming Lancashire to the BB&O for a return match in 2018.

The half was well deserved and we look forward to welcoming Lancashire to the BB&O in 2018.
