Maidenhead Triumph

Maidenhead Triumph

After missing the event in 2020, we had 35 teams representing 21 clubs compete in the Club Foursomes at Goring & Streatley on Friday 28th May. With the weather starting to improve, it was a calm day for the players. The greens were slick and the fairways tight. First group of the 9th, James Brockington and Andrew Bryan from Henley Golf Club set the pace of the day by shooting a level par 71. With a home advantage, Bradley Hopkin and Matt McCleary shoot a solid gross 72 (+1) which left them 1 shot shy going into the afternoon round. It’s all to play for in the afternoon with 9 teams all within 5 shots of the leaders.

Darnell Scadding and Michael Verity from Burnham Beeches sit alongside two other pairs 3 shots back from Bradley Hopkin and Matt McCleary in the net event. Will the home advantage play in their favour in the afternoon or will the chasing pack put pressure on the leaders?

Adam Birdseye and Alfie Forisky snuck into the lead after a second round 72 to lead by 3 ahead of James Brockington and Andrew Bryan. As groups started to finish, Adam & Alfie’s lead started to narrow. Darnell Scadding & Michael Verity (Burnham Beeches) shot a gross 148 falling just short of the gross prize, however they lifted the net trophy winning by 3 shots. Harry Powell & Bradley Tuckett from Calcot Park matched Adam and Alfie both rounds finishing on 147. A birdie from the trees on 18 from Adam and Alfie meant they finished 1st on count back.

Congratulations to Adam Birdseye & Alfie Forisky (Maidenhead) for winning the Scratch Club Foursomes and Darnell Scadding & Michael Verity (Burnham Beeches) on winning the Handicap Club Foursomes!

Thank you to Goring & Streatley for presenting the course in magnificent condition, the players truly enjoyed the test.
