Tom is Junior Champion

Tom is Junior Champion

It was a beautiful day for our Junior Championship at Buckinghamshire Golf Club, where over 50 boys were competing for the title of BB&O Junior Champion. George Johnson (Beaconsfield) took the lead after the morning round shooting a respectable 73 (+1), it was all to play for in the afternoon with seven boys all within touching distance.

The scores improved as the afternoon progressed, Tom Stephenson-Green (Frilford Heath) and Will Tate (Bearwood Lakes) finished on an overall score of +6. This final score was good enough for Tom to become the U15 champion. Archie Smith (Bearwood Lakes) shot a second round 74 to finish on +5, just one shot shy of making the play off. George Johnson (Beaconsfield) followed his morning round with a 75 (+3) to finish +4, George maintained clubhouse leader until the last few groups came in. Tom Bell (Beaconsfield) shot two rounds of 74 to join George at the top of the leader board on +4. Ben Loveard (Woburn) fired the best round of the day, 69 (-3), to join both George and Tom in a play off. Ben’s great afternoon round secured him the title of U16 Champion.

The play-off only needed one hole to find a winner. Both Ben and Tom hit good tee shots with George just creeping into the water on the right of the 1st, however a great recovery shot still gave him a chance at a birdie. Ben and Tom had eagle opportunities, with both putts missing all three boys had a chance at a birdie. George and Ben’s putts narrowly missed the hole, giving Tom a 4ft putt for birdie and to win. Tom didn’t let the opportunity slide and holed the birdie putt to become BB&O Junior Champion. Tom will represent BB&O in the England County Champion of Champions at Frilford Heath later in the year, we wish him the best of luck.

Thank you to everyone who stayed and supported the boys in the play off and to Buckinghamshire Golf Club hosting a fantastic event.
