Futures Tour Order of Merits

Futures Tour Order of Merits

After a long but very successful 2017 Futures Tour the three-age group Order of Merits reached a conclusion after the Frilford Heath event. With 12 events during the year and a maximum of the best 9 scores from each player taken into account the prizes were won by those who were able to consistently perform to a high standard throughout the year.

28 different boys in the U12 age group scored points during the year but this title was not to be decided until the day of the last event at Frilford Heath. Simon Mead (Newbury & Crookham) and Connor Jacob (Newbury & Crookham) had gone head to head all year and nothing could split them at Frilford either. They both scored 85 and countback on the day would not only decide the winner of the event but also the winner of the coveted Order of Merit title. Connor Jacob took the spoils and wins at Sunningdale Heath, Hadden Hill, North Oxford and at Frilford Heath gave him a final points total of 156. Simon Meads’ victories at Ellesborough, Badgemore Park and Henley helped him to a points total of just 4 less than Conor, 152. Joseph Lawton (East Berkshire) was back in third place on 135.

38 different boys scored points during the season in the U14 age group. Ben Loveard (Woburn) has played some simply outstanding golf this year and was the run away winner in the U14 category. A total of 6 wins at Ellesborough, Sunningdale Heath, Badgemore Park, Goring & Streatley, Henley and Woburn helped him towards a final points tally of 161. In second place was Harry Thomas (Frilford Heath) who had wins at Temple and Frilford to help him towards a final points tally of 138. Back in third was Ben McFadden (Stoke Park).

25 different boys in the U15 age group scored points during the year. This title was to be battled out by good friends and club mates from Caversham Heath, Archie Smith and Will Tate. Archie was leading going into Frilford but it was not impossible for Will to catch him. Will did everything in his powers and took the victory at Frilford but Archie managed to pick up some points which would ultimately lead to him picking up the Order of Merit prize. Victories for Archie at Temple, Goring & Steatley, The Berkshire, Maidenhead and Woburn helped him to a points total of 145. Will had a final points total of 139 which included victories at North Oxford and Frilford Heath. In third place was Oscar Fowler (Stoke Park).

A special mention to Titleist and Footjoy for providing prizes for all winners throughout the year and the red tops that were worn by all competitors. Their support was gratefully received by all at BB&O.
