BB&O Boys Brilliant but Out

BB&O Boys Brilliant but Out

A scorecard disaster sent the BB&O Boys team crashing out of the National County Championships after a brilliant performance at Kings Hill Golf Club last week.

Fantastic rounds by Ben Loveard (Woburn) and Luke Perkins (Frilford Heath), backed up with solid performances by Finlay Szafnauer (Frilford Heath), Mark Dickin (Bearwood Lakes), and Ben McFadden (Castle Royle) put BB&O two shots behind Essex after the morning rounds. Their 2 under par total, of the aggregate best 5 scores of 6, was impressive and even the 6th player (Huw Pearson from Frilford Heath) struck the ball beautifully but just didn’t score well.

An afternoon of pure brilliance saw Finlay shoot -5, Luke Perkins -4, Ben Loveard -3, Ben Mc Fadden -3, and Mark Dickin +2 for the team to lead by 9 shots. Unfortunately Ben McFadden noticed that his score had been posted as being one better than he actually shot, which he reported immediately. After an investigation it was determined that there had been a scorecard error and Ben would have to be removed from the second round. His honestly meant that Huw Pearson’s 78 would count within the BB&O score. This meant that BB&O tied with Essex and as the countback was determined by the 6th score, BB&O missed out to Essex.

As disappointing as the result was, BB&O are proud of the integrity showed by Ben, and will live to fight another day!
