Castle Royle are Champions!
Studley Wood hosted the BB&O Champion Club on Friday 7th July on a glorious day with pure blue skies creating the perfect golfing conditions. With all 3 scores from each club team to count over 36 hole, the pressure was on. In the morning, Harry Chapple got the Calcot Park team off to a steady start by shooting level par and with Drew Rolfe and Bradley Tuckett both shooting +1, Calcot Park stood at +2 after the first round. Tom Wilde (Castle Royle) took full advantage of the good weather and was -7 after nine holes! Word soon spread leaving the rest of the field chasing on their last few holes. Tom finished the round on -10, shooting 63 to match the professional course record and to beat the amateur record! A phenomenal score and achievement. Fellow Castle Royle team mate Harrison Arnold followed suit and shot a great score of 69 (-4). Alongside Tom and Harrison, Oliver Rolls stood proudly at the top of the half way leaderboard with a team total of -3 leaving them 5 strokes clear of Calcot Park. Defending Courage Trophy Champion, Rory Browne (Feldon Valley), matched Harrison’s 69 (-4) and sat in second place on count back heading into round 2.
Oliver Rolls had a steady afternoon round giving Castle Royle a good start. Tom continued his hot streak and fired a 67 (-5) finishing on -15….a record breaking total! Harrison had 7 birdies on his way to shooting a 70 (-3) and secured the win for Castle Royle on a -5 total, 12 shots ahead of Beaconsfield who’s team of Ben Quick, Carl Banner and James Casserly were all steady.
Rory Browne put up a great Courage Trophy defence shooting 70 (-3) in the afternoon however finished on third place behind Harrison Arnold in 2nd and Tom who was simply unstoppable.
Congratulations to Tom on a fantastic tournament and to Castle Royle who go on to represent BB&O in the national final later in the year.
